Founded in 1972 in New Brunswick, NJ, Sanford Bates House was the New Jersey Association on Correction’s second halfway house opened for inmates making the transition from incarceration back into the community.

The focus of services shifted in 2005, when Sanford Bates House became PATH (Parolee Aftercare and Transitional Housing).  Funded by the New Jersey State Parole Board (NJSPB), PATH fulfills a new need that the NJSPB is finding more and more difficult for parolees: housing.  Upon parole from a New Jersey institution, individuals are required to provide a residence address and many are not able to do so.  This program allows residents to not only provide a housing address in order for parole to occur, it also assists them in finding permanent housing and employment during their stay at the program.

The New Jersey Association on Correction and Sanford Bates House/P.A.T.H. Program was accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) in March 2016.
